ADVANCE PRAISE Derrick Nix was instrumental in developing my son, Garrett Hien into the player he is today. Garrett started training with Derrick in his early High School years. He taught him the skills and dedication needed to be the best player he could be. He was very hands on with Garrett teaching him basketball skills, mobility, conditioning, endurance and so much more. Garrett is now a senior at Furman University. In March 2023 Furman made it to the round of 32 in March Madness. Derrick was one of the first people to message me to congratulate me on my son’s achievement! When I think about Garrett’s success I always go back in my mind to Derrick, as he was his first trainer. Garrett loved training with him and I know in my heart that how Derrick trained him both physically and mentally had a major impact on Garrett’s development. Derrick assesses each player and develops a plan to improve them based on their specific needs. He made training sessions fun. They were hard, but fun and kept Garrett wanting more and more training. Derrick continues to stay in touch with Garrett and myself years after he trained him. He is so invested in the players he trains, on and off the court and he genuinely cares about each player. His athletes become a part of his family. We have been so very blessed to have Derrick in our lives and more importantly to have such an incredible role model for our son.
